HISTORY

  • On October 21, 1993, the FRODEBU regime launched a campaign of genocide against the Tutsi throughout the country. In the face of these horrors, an inquiry commission mandated by the UN (S/1996/682) established that acts of genocide were perpetrated in Burundi against the Tutsi minority on October 21, 1993, and the following days, instigated and participated in by Hutu militants and leaders of FRODEBU.
  • In a letter dated July 25, 1996, the UN Secretary-General presented the commission’s report to the President of the Security Council. The Security Council CS/725 met on August 28, 1996, to examine the situation in Burundi. At the end of the meeting, its press release echoed the conclusion of the inquiry commission: “The Commission believes that the evidence it has is sufficient to establish that acts of genocide were perpetrated in Burundi against the Tutsi minority on October 21, 1993, and the following days, instigated and with the participation of some Hutu militants and leaders from FRODEBU, including at the municipal level.”
  • Despite this recognition by the UN of the acts of genocide against the Tutsi of Burundi, today, more than 31 years after this genocide, it is evident that the victims have not had access to justice, as the FRODEBU regime, along with all subsequent regimes, has continued to deny and trivialize the genocide and has continued to perpetrate violence against the survivors of this Tutsi genocide.
  • In light of this situation, to perpetuate the memory of the victims of the Tutsi genocide in Burundi and to work to ensure that this heinous crime does not happen again, we decided to create the ASSOCIATION AGAINST THE GENOCIDE OF THE TUTSI KIRAZIRA.

MISSION

  • To promote awareness and education about the Tutsi genocide by organizing conferences, workshops, and educational programs in Canada, Burundi, and worldwide, in order to combat the ideology of genocide and all forms of trivialization and denial of the Tutsi genocide.
  • To perpetuate the memory of the victims of the Tutsi genocide in Burundi.

OUR COMMITMENT

To gather the necessary resources to understand and eradicate the genocidal ideology against the Tutsi in order to build a harmonious future for all.
